Pharmachologic effect:

Tadalafil is a phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5) inhibitor that increases blood flow to the penis during sexual stimulation, resulting in improved erectile function. It is also used to treat symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) by relaxing the muscles in the prostate and bladder.

Contraindications:


  • Hypersensitivity to tadalafil or any component of the tablet
  • Use of nitrates in any form

Side effects:


In order of decreasing probability: Headache, Dyspepsia, Back pain, Myalgia, Nasal congestion, Flushing, Pain in limb, Dizziness, Visual disturbances, Rash

Dosing and Administration:


For erectile dysfunction, the recommended dose is 10 mg taken prior to anticipated sexual activity and with or without food. The dose may be increased to 20 mg or decreased to 5 mg based on efficacy and tolerability. For daily use, the recommended dose is 2.5 mg taken at the same time each day. For benign prostatic hyperplasia, the recommended dose is 5 mg once daily, taken at the same time each day.
