Pharmachologic effect:

Rimantadine is an antiviral medication that inhibits the replication of influenza A virus by interfering with the viral M2 protein, which is essential for viral uncoating and replication.

Indications:


  • Treatment and prevention of influenza A in adults and children over 7 years of age

Contraindications:


  • Hypersensitivity to rimantadine or any component of the formulation
  • Severe liver dysfunction
  • Severe kidney dysfunction
  • Pregnancy
  • Lactation

Side effects:


In order of decreasing probability: Nausea, Vomiting, Loss of appetite, Dry mouth, Dizziness, Headache, Insomnia, Nervousness

Dosing and Administration:


For adults and children over 14 years: 100 mg twice daily. For children aged 7 to 14 years: 50 mg twice daily. Treatment should begin within 24-48 hours of the onset of symptoms and continue for 5 to 7 days.

Storage:


Store at a temperature not exceeding 25°C (77°F).
