Ezetrol, also known as Ezetimibe, is a medication designed to help manage high cholesterol levels. Pharmachologic effect:

Ezetrol is a lipid-lowering compound that selectively inhibits the intestinal absorption of cholesterol and related plant sterols. It acts by targeting the Niemann-Pick C1-Like 1 (NPC1L1) protein, which is involved in the uptake of cholesterol in the intestine.

Indications:


  • Primary hypercholesterolemia
  • Homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia
  • Homozygous sitosterolemia (phytosterolemia)

Contraindications:


  • Hypersensitivity to ezetimibe or any component of the product
  • Active liver disease or unexplained persistent elevations in hepatic transaminase levels
  • Pregnancy and lactation

Side effects:


In order of decreasing probability: Common: Headache, diarrhea, abdominal pain, Uncommon: Elevated liver enzymes, myalgia, Rare: Hypersensitivity reactions including rash and angioedema, Very rare: Thrombocytopenia, hepatitis

Dosing and Administration:


The recommended dose of Ezetrol is 10 mg once daily. It can be administered with or without food. Ezetrol may be taken at the same time as a statin or fenofibrate, but should be taken at least 2 hours before or 4 hours after bile acid sequestrants.

Storage:


Store at a temperature not exceeding 30°C (86°F).
