Moxifloxacin is a broad-spectrum antibiotic that belongs to the fluoroquinolone class. It works by inhibiting bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, enzymes necessary for bacterial DNA replication, transcription, repair, and recombination, leading to bacterial cell death.Indications:
- Community-acquired pneumonia
- Acute bacterial sinusitis
- Acute bacterial exacerbation of chronic bronchitis
- Uncomplicated skin and skin structure infections
- Complicated intra-abdominal infections
Contraindications:
- Hypersensitivity to moxifloxacin or other quinolones
- Pregnancy and lactation
- Patients with a history of tendon disorders related to fluoroquinolone administration
- Children and adolescents under 18 years of age

In order of decreasing probability: Nausea, Diarrhea, Dizziness, Headache, QT prolongation, Tendonitis and tendon rupture, Photosensitivity reactions, Hepatic dysfunction
Dosing and Administration:
The recommended dose of Moflaxia is 400 mg once daily. The duration of therapy depends on the type and severity of the infection. For community-acquired pneumonia, the usual duration is 7 to 14 days. For acute bacterial sinusitis, the duration is typically 5 to 10 days. It is important to complete the full course of therapy as prescribed.
