The maximum daily dose should be no more than 12 tablets, the use of which must be divided into 3 doses. Children under 5 years old are allowed to take from 2 to 12 tablets, depending on the severity of the disease and the doctor's prescription. The duration of the course is determined individually.
Aminalon is used for :
Conditions after suffering cerebrovascular accidents, after traumatic brain injury
Atherosclerosis of cerebral vessels with symptoms of brain softening
Alcoholic encephalopathy and polyneuritis
Headache, dizziness, sleep disturbances in arterial hypertension
Cerebral palsy; consequences of craniocerebral and birth trauma in children; mental retardation in children; kinetosis.

Active substance:

Gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA)

Pharmachologic effect:

nootropic, stimulating metabolism in the central nervous system.

Pharmacodynamics:

GABA is the main mediator involved in the processes of central inhibition. It improves blood supply to the brain, activates energy processes, increases the respiratory activity of tissues, improves glucose utilization and the removal of toxic metabolic products. GABA interacts with specific GABAergic receptors of A and B types, improves the dynamics of nervous processes in the brain, increases the productivity of thinking, improves memory, has a moderate psychostimulating, antihypoxic and anticonvulsant effect.
Aminalon promotes the restoration of speech and motor functions after cerebrovascular accident. It has a moderate hypotensive effect, reduces the initially elevated blood pressure and the severity of symptoms caused by hypertension (dizziness, insomnia), slightly reduces heart rate. In patients with diabetes mellitus, it reduces the level of glucose in the blood, with normal glycemia, it often causes hyperglycemia due to glycogenolysis.

Pharmacokinetics:

Plasma concentration reaches a maximum after 60 minutes, then rapidly decreases; after 24 hours GABA is not determined in blood plasma. According to experimental data, GABA poorly penetrates the BBB. GABA is low-toxic.

Indications:

Damage to the vessels of the brain (atherosclerosis, hypertension, etc.);
cerebrovascular insufficiency and discirculatory encephalopathy;
violation of memory, attention, speech;
dizziness;
headache;
consequences of stroke and traumatic brain injury;
alcoholic encephalopathy, alcoholic polyneuritis;
mental retardation in children, dementia, cerebral palsy;
endogenous depression with a predominance of asthenohypochondriac phenomena and difficulty in mental activity;
the symptom complex of motion sickness (sea and air sickness).

Contraindications:

Hypersensitivity,
childhood (up to 1 year),
acute renal failure,
pregnancy (I trimester).

Pregnancy and breast-feeding:

Contraindicated in the first trimester of pregnancy.

Side effects:

Nausea, vomiting, insomnia, fluctuations in blood pressure (in the first days of treatment), dyspepsia, hyperthermia, fever.

Interaction:

Aminalon strengthens the effect of drugs that improve the functions of the central nervous system. Benzodiazepines potentiate the action of Aminalon.

Dosing and Administration:

Aminalon should be taken before meals.
Adults : 1.5-3.75 g / day,
Children : 1-3 years old - 0.5-2 g/day, 4-6 years old - 2-3 g/day, over 7 years old - 3 g/day.
The daily dose is divided into 3 doses; course - from 2-3 weeks to 2-4 months.
Motion sickness syndrome: adults - 0.5 g, children - 0.25 g 3 times a day for 3 days; for prophylaxis - in the same dose for 3 days preceding a possible motion sickness situation.
