Cortexin®

Cortexin®

Cortexin® is an effective protection and restoration of the central nervous system in just 10 days due to a 3-vector mechanism of action.
Cortexin® is widely used by doctors for neurological diseases and pathological processes associated with impaired brain function. The breadth of the spectrum of effectiveness covers all age groups. The biological nature of the drug allows a short course to start the internal mechanisms that restore the normal functioning of the brain. At the same time, the effectiveness remains for several months. The safety of Cortexin® has been confirmed by the practice of using the drug in millions of patients both in Russia and abroad.

Pharmachologic effect:

nootropic, neuroprotective, antioxidant, tissue-specific.

Pharmacodynamics:

Cortexin® contains a complex of low molecular weight water-soluble polypeptide fractions that penetrate through the blood-brain barrier (BBB) directly to nerve cells. Cortexin has a nootropic, neuroprotective, antioxidant, tissue-specific effect.
Nootropic : Cortexin® improves higher brain functions, learning and memory processes, concentration, stability under various stressful conditions.
Neuroprotective : Cortexin® protects neurons from damage by various endogenous neurotoxic factors (glutamate, calcium ions, free radicals), reduces the toxic effects of psychotropic substances.
Antioxidant : Cortexin® inhibits lipid peroxidation in neurons, increases the survival of neurons under conditions of oxidative stress and hypoxia.
Tissue-specific : Cortexin® activates the metabolism of neurons of the central and peripheral nervous system, reparative processes, improves the functions of the cerebral cortex and the general tone of the nervous system.
The mechanism of action of Cortexin® is due to the activation of neuropeptides and neurotrophic factors of the brain; optimization of the balance of metabolism of excitatory and inhibitory amino acids, dopamine, serotonin; GABAergic effect; a decrease in the level of paroxysmal convulsive activity of the brain, the ability to improve its bioelectrical activity; preventing the formation of free radicals (products of lipid peroxidation).

Indications:

In complex therapy:
- violation of cerebral circulation;
- traumatic brain injury and its consequences;
- encephalopathy of various origins;
- cognitive impairment (disorders of memory and thinking);
- ADHD ;
- acute and chronic encephalitis and encephalomyelitis;
- epilepsy;
- asthenic conditions (suprasegmental vegetative disorders);
- reduced ability to learn;
- delayed psychomotor and speech development in children;
- various forms of cerebral palsy.

Contraindications:

- individual intolerance to the drug;
- pregnancy;
- lactation.

Pregnancy and breast-feeding:

The drug is contraindicated in pregnancy (due to the lack of data from clinical studies).
If necessary, the appointment of the drug during lactation should stop breastfeeding (due to the lack of data from clinical studies).

Side effects:

undesirable reactions in clinical use were observed very rarely (less than 1/10000 ) : anaphylactic shock, drug hypersensitivity, angioedema, erythema, urticaria, rash, pruritus, allergic dermatitis, psychomotor agitation, incoordination, headache, dizziness, drowsiness, hypesthesia, tachycardia (increased heart rate), arrhythmia, anxiety , insomnia, hyperemia at the injection site, hyperthermia, asthenia, chills, Increased blood pressure.

Interaction:

The use of local anesthetic lidocaine as a solvent for solution preparation in children is associated with an increase in the severity of manifestations of adverse reactions, and therefore its use is not recommended.

Dosing and Administration:

Cortexin is administered intramuscularly.
Before injection, the contents of the vial are dissolved in 1–2 ml of a 0.5% solution of procaine (novocaine), water for injection or 0.9% sodium chloride solution, directing the needle to the wall of the vial to avoid foaming, and administered once daily:
adults - at a dose 10 mg for 10 days;
children under 20 kg - at a dose of 0.5 mg / kg,
children more than 20 kg - at a dose of 10 mg for 10 days.
If necessary, repeat the course after 3-6 months.
With hemispheric ischemic stroke in the acute and early recovery periods: adults at a dose of 10 mg 2 times a day (morning and afternoon) for 10 days, with a second course after 10 days.

Overdose:

No cases of drug overdose have been reported.

Special instructions:
When using a 0.5% solution of procaine (novocaine) as a solvent for Cortexin®, you should follow the information on contraindications, precautions and age restrictions set out in the instructions for the use of procaine (novocaine).
The use of local anesthetic lidocaine as a solvent for the preparation of a solution of the Cortexin® drug is not recommended.
The vial with the dissolved drug should not be stored and used after storage.
The solution of Cortexin® is not recommended to be mixed with other solutions.
There are no features of the action of the drug at the first use or its cancellation.
In case of missing an injection, it is not recommended to administer a double dose, the next injection should be taken as usual on the scheduled day.
Special precautions for the destruction of unused medicinal product are not required.

Storage:

The temperature is not above 25 °C (77 °F)
