Celebrex, known generically as Celecoxib, is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) used primarily to manage pain and inflammation associated with conditions like arthritis. It works by inhibiting the enzyme COX-2, which plays a key role in the production of prostaglandins, substances that mediate inflammation and pain in the body. Celebrex is commonly prescribed for osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, and ankylosing spondylitis. It offers targeted relief while minimizing gastrointestinal issues typical of traditional NSAIDs. Pharmachologic effect:

Celebrex is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that works by reducing hormones that cause inflammation and pain in the body.

Indications:


  • Osteoarthritis
  • Rheumatoid arthritis
  • Ankylosing spondylitis
  • Acute pain
  • Primary dysmenorrhea

Contraindications:


  • Hypersensitivity to celecoxib or any component of the formulation
  • History of allergic-type reactions to sulfonamides
  • History of asthma, urticaria, or other allergic-type reactions after taking aspirin or other NSAIDs
  • Coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) surgery
  • Severe hepatic impairment
  • Severe renal impairment

Side effects:


In order of decreasing probability: Headache, Abdominal pain, Diarrhea, Dyspepsia, Flatulence, Nausea, Dizziness, Edema, Hypertension, Upper respiratory tract infection

Dosing and Administration:


For osteoarthritis, the recommended dose is 200 mg per day as a single dose or in two divided doses. For rheumatoid arthritis, the recommended dose is 100 to 200 mg twice daily. For ankylosing spondylitis, the recommended dose is 200 mg per day as a single dose or in two divided doses. For acute pain and primary dysmenorrhea, the initial dose is 400 mg, followed by an additional 200 mg if needed on the first day. On subsequent days, the recommended dose is 200 mg twice daily as needed.

Storage:


Store at a temperature not exceeding 30°C (86°F).
