- Type 2 diabetes mellitus in adults when diet, exercise, and weight reduction alone are not adequate.
Contraindications:
- Hypersensitivity to glibenclamide or any other component of the drug
- Type 1 diabetes mellitus
- Diabetic ketoacidosis
- Severe renal or hepatic impairment
- Pregnancy and lactation
- Concomitant use with bosentan
Side effects:
In order of decreasing probability: Hypoglycemia, Nausea, Heartburn, Allergic skin reactions, Hepatic dysfunction, Blood disorders, Visual disturbances
Dosing and Administration:
The usual starting dose is 2.5 to 5 mg daily, taken with breakfast or the first main meal. The dose may be adjusted based on the patient's response, with a typical maintenance dose ranging from 1.25 to 20 mg per day, administered in one or two divided doses.
