Pharmachologic effect:

Norfloxacin is a broad-spectrum antibacterial agent from the fluoroquinolone class. It works by inhibiting bacterial DNA gyrase, an enzyme essential for DNA replication, transcription, repair, and recombination, leading to the death of susceptible bacteria.

Indications:


  • Urinary tract infections
  • Prostatitis
  • Gastroenteritis caused by susceptible bacteria
  • Gonorrhea
  • Infections of the skin and soft tissues

Contraindications:


  • Hypersensitivity to norfloxacin or other quinolones
  • Tendon disorders related to quinolone use
  • Pregnancy and breastfeeding
  • Children and adolescents under 18 years of age

Side effects:


In order of decreasing probability: Nausea, Diarrhea, Dizziness, Headache, Insomnia, Rash, Photosensitivity, Tendonitis, Tendon rupture

Dosing and Administration:


The recommended dosage for adults is 400 mg twice daily. The duration of treatment depends on the severity and type of infection, typically ranging from 3 to 14 days. It is advised to take the tablets with a full glass of water, at least 1 hour before or 2 hours after meals.

Storage:


Store at a temperature not exceeding 25°C (77°F).
