Pharmachologic effect:

Cefuroxime is a cephalosporin antibiotic that works by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis, leading to the death of the bacteria. It is effective against a wide range of gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria.

Indications:

Respiratory tract infections
Urinary tract infections
Skin and soft tissue infections
Bone and joint infections
Septicemia
Meningitis
Gonorrhea

Contraindications:

Hypersensitivity to cefuroxime or other cephalosporin antibiotics
Severe renal impairment without appropriate dose adjustment

Side effects:

In order of decreasing probability: Common: Diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, Uncommon: Headache, dizziness, abdominal pain, Rare: Allergic reactions, including rash, itching, and anaphylaxis, Very rare: Hemolytic anemia, Stevens-Johnson syndrome

Dosing and Administration:

The usual adult dose is 250-500 mg twice daily, depending on the severity of the infection. For children, the dose is typically 10-15 mg/kg twice daily. The tablets should be taken after meals to enhance absorption.

Storage:

Store at a temperature not exceeding 25°C (77°F).
