Rimantadine is an antiviral medication that inhibits the replication of influenza A virus by interfering with the viral M2 protein, which is essential for viral uncoating within the host cell.Indications:
- Treatment of influenza A in adults and children
- Prophylaxis of influenza A in adults and children
Contraindications:
- Hypersensitivity to rimantadine or any component of the formulation
- Severe liver dysfunction
- Severe renal impairment
- Pregnancy
- Lactation

Dosing and Administration:
For adults, the recommended dosage is 100 mg twice daily. For children aged 10 years and older, the dosage is 100 mg twice daily. For children aged 1 to 9 years, the dosage is 5 mg/kg once daily, not exceeding 150 mg per day. Treatment should begin as soon as possible after the onset of influenza symptoms and continue for approximately 5 to 7 days.
