Plagril is an antiplatelet agent that inhibits platelet aggregation by selectively inhibiting the binding of adenosine diphosphate (ADP) to its platelet receptor, thereby preventing activation of the glycoprotein GPIIb/IIIa complex.Indications:
- Prevention of atherothrombotic events in patients with myocardial infarction, ischemic stroke, or established peripheral arterial disease.
- Acute coronary syndrome (ACS) including non-ST elevation ACS and ST elevation myocardial infarction.
Contraindications:
- Hypersensitivity to clopidogrel or any component of the product.
- Active pathological bleeding such as peptic ulcer or intracranial hemorrhage.
- Severe liver impairment.
Side effects:
In order of decreasing probability: Common: Bleeding, bruising., Uncommon: Diarrhea, abdominal pain, dyspepsia., Rare: Thrombocytopenia, neutropenia, aplastic anemia.
Dosing and Administration:
The recommended dose of Plagril is 75 mg once daily, with or without food. In acute coronary syndrome, an initial loading dose of 300 mg may be given, followed by 75 mg once daily.
