Pharmachologic effect:

Ambroxol is a mucolytic agent that enhances the production of surfactant in the lungs and reduces the viscosity of mucus, facilitating its expectoration.

Indications:


  • Acute and chronic respiratory diseases associated with abnormal mucus secretion and impaired mucus transport
  • Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)
  • Bronchitis
  • Asthma with mucus plugging

Contraindications:


  • Hypersensitivity to Ambroxol or any of the excipients
  • Severe hepatic or renal impairment
  • Peptic ulcer disease

Side effects:


In order of decreasing probability: Common: Nausea, altered taste, Uncommon: Vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, Rare: Skin rash, urticaria, Very rare: Anaphylactic reactions, angioedema

Dosing and Administration:


Adults and children over 12 years: 30 mg to 60 mg taken orally 2 to 3 times daily. The tablets should be taken with a sufficient amount of liquid. The duration of treatment should not exceed 4 to 5 days without medical advice.

Storage:


Store at a temperature not exceeding 25°C (77°F).
