Rosuvastatin

Pharmachologic effect:

Rosuvastatin is a lipid-lowering medication that works by inhibiting the enzyme HMG-CoA reductase, which plays a central role in the production of cholesterol in the liver. This results in decreased levels of low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol and triglycerides in the blood, while increasing levels of high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol.

Indications:

Primary hypercholesterolemia
Mixed dyslipidemia
Homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia
Prevention of cardiovascular disease

Contraindications:

Hypersensitivity to rosuvastatin or any component of the formulation
Active liver disease
Pregnancy
Lactation
Severe renal impairment

Side effects:

In order of decreasing probability: Headache, Dizziness, Constipation, Nausea, Abdominal pain, Myalgia, Asthenia, Increased liver enzymes, Rhabdomyolysis

Dosing and Administration:

The recommended starting dose is 5 to 10 mg once daily, with or without food. The dose may be adjusted at intervals of 4 weeks or more, up to a maximum of 40 mg once daily, based on individual response and therapeutic goals.

Storage:

Store at a temperature not exceeding 30°C (86°F).
