- Treatment of osteoporosis in postmenopausal women
- Prevention of osteoporosis in postmenopausal women
- Treatment of osteoporosis in men
- Treatment of glucocorticoid-induced osteoporosis
Contraindications:
- Hypersensitivity to alendronic acid or any component of the drug
- Esophageal abnormalities which delay esophageal emptying
- Inability to stand or sit upright for at least 30 minutes
- Hypocalcemia
Side effects:
In order of decreasing probability: Common: abdominal pain, dyspepsia, acid regurgitation, Uncommon: nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, Rare: esophageal ulceration, osteonecrosis of the jaw, Very rare: severe skin reactions, atypical femur fractures
Dosing and Administration:
The recommended dose is one 70 mg tablet once weekly. The tablet should be taken with a full glass of water at least 30 minutes before the first food, beverage, or medication of the day. The patient should remain upright for at least 30 minutes after taking the tablet.
Storage:
