Domperidone is a dopamine antagonist with antiemetic properties. It works by blocking dopamine receptors in the chemoreceptor trigger zone, which helps to reduce nausea and vomiting.Indications:
- Nausea and vomiting of various origins
- Gastroesophageal reflux disease
- Functional dyspepsia
Contraindications:
- Hypersensitivity to domperidone or any of the excipients
- Prolactinoma
- Gastrointestinal hemorrhage, mechanical obstruction, or perforation
- Moderate or severe hepatic impairment
- Concomitant use with QT-prolonging drugs or potent CYP3A4 inhibitors
Side effects:
In order of decreasing probability: Dry mouth, Headache, Dizziness, Diarrhea, Rash, Pruritus, Palpitations, Ventricular arrhythmias
Dosing and Administration:
The recommended dose for adults is 10 mg taken 15 to 30 minutes before meals, up to three times daily. The maximum duration of treatment should not exceed one week without medical supervision.
