Pharmachologic effect:

Indications:

Acute treatment of migraine attacks with or without aura in adults.

Contraindications:

Hypersensitivity to sumatriptan or any of the excipients
History of myocardial infarction
Ischemic heart disease or coronary vasospasm
Peripheral vascular disease
Stroke or transient ischemic attack
Severe hepatic impairment
Uncontrolled hypertension
Concomitant use with ergotamine or its derivatives
Concomitant use with another 5-HT1 receptor agonist

Side effects:

Dosing and Administration:

The recommended dose of Sumatriptan for adults is a single 50 mg tablet. Some patients may require 100 mg. If the migraine persists or returns, a second dose may be taken at least 2 hours after the first dose. The maximum dose in 24 hours should not exceed 200 mg.
