Xarelto
Xarelto is an oral anticoagulant containing Rivaroxaban, designed to prevent and treat blood clots in conditions such as deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and pulmonary embolism (PE). It is also used to reduce the risk of stroke and systemic embolism in patients with nonvalvular atrial fibrillation. Xarelto works by inhibiting factor Xa, a crucial component in the blood coagulation process, thereby preventing clot formation. Contraindications:
- Active clinically significant bleeding
- Lesion or condition at significant risk of major bleeding
- Hepatic disease associated with coagulopathy
- Pregnancy and lactation
- Hypersensitivity to rivaroxaban or any of the excipients
Side effects:
In order of decreasing probability: Common: bleeding events, anemia, nausea, Uncommon: thrombocytopenia, allergic reactions, dizziness, Rare: jaundice, liver function abnormalities, angioedema
Dosing and Administration:
The recommended dose for stroke prevention in non-valvular atrial fibrillation is 20 mg once daily with food. For the treatment of DVT and PE, the recommended dose is 15 mg twice daily for the first 21 days, followed by 20 mg once daily. For prevention of recurrent DVT and PE, the recommended dose is 10 mg once daily. For prevention of venous thromboembolism in patients undergoing hip or knee replacement surgery, the recommended dose is 10 mg once daily.
